FTSE Russell is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Russell indexes, which were created in 1984 by Frank Russell consultant Kelly Haughton to provide a better benchmark than the S&P 500 index for General Motors. The Russell indexes have since expanded to include the Russell 3000, Russell 2000, and Russell 1000, catering to different investment strategies and market segments.
