The twentieth century has been most disastourous in human history in social and political terms - nearly 200 men and women have died in military or political conflicts. The generation of three powerful forces, which if properly nutured, could make the coming century an era of peace and harmony in the world. These three forces are Democracy, Ecology and Culture. India is unique and well placed to give strength and meaning ot these three "forces" of democracy, ecology and culture. India's rich culture will conbtribute to the ways in which democratic institutions, ecological concerns and our rich traditions will support each other. The locus of power in the twentyfirst century may shift to Asia. The economic strength of India will no doubt increase. A rapid economic growth at a rate of 10 per cent or more for next 10 to 15 years will help India to achieve world respect in the same manner as it has done to Chin [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
