The article discusses a research project the involved a person with a disability in the process of designing an expressive object that could be used to allow users of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) to participate more effectively in conversations. Topics include the problem of timing when people using AAC attempt to communicate with non-AAC users and the importance of including people with disabilities as co-designers of AAC devices in order to ensure the design is user-centered. |
