People of color are expected to become a majority in the U.S. within the next 25 years, leading businesses to realize the need to hire diverse talent to cater to a changing population. Research shows that companies with more diverse workforces outperform their less diverse counterparts. The authors use the example of the Professional Golfers' Association of America. The PGA, facing challenges in recruiting from underrepresented communities in a sport predominantly viewed as white, partnered with Jopwell, a career advancement platform for Black, Latinx, and Native American individuals, to engage, recruit, and retain talent from marginalized communities. They used data-driven approaches to identify barriers to entry and perceptions of the golf industry, translating the data into action by improving accessibility, increasing awareness, and creating systems of accountability to foster lasting changes in hiring practices. |
