It is nothing new that shoulder-fired missiles present a persistent threat to military aircraft. But whether or not we also need to protect the commercial airplanes against this kind of menace remains the issue of many debates among aviation experts worldwide. This paper gives a brief overview of history, types and proliferation of these weapons and focuses on possible protection and countermeasures against this threat. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
