The article discusses the parliamentary elections that were held in Switzerland on October 23, 2011, with a particular focus on the political right-wing party the Swiss Peoples Party's (SVP's) loss of parliamentary seats. An overview of the fractionalisation of Switzerland's political parties, including the formation of new political parties during the 2000s, the Conservative Democrats (BDP) and the Green Liberals (GLP), is provided. An overview of the history of the Swiss political party system from 1991 to 2012 is also provided. |
