Background: Sexual and reproductive health is a considered as a public health issue and it's of global concern. A comprehensive education that strengthens the self-confidence and the self-esteem constitutes the key for promoting sexual and reproductive health and healthy relationships of adolescents. Purpose: The aim of this article is to discuss the importance of sexual and reproductive health in the development of healthy adolescent relations. Method: Literature review articles in MEDLINE and CINAHL (1990-2010). Conclusion: The promotion of sexual and reproductive health of adolescents should be considered as an imperative need, as it affects their health and the prosperity of the whole society. Through different health promotion and education methods, one should aim apart from increasing adolescents' related knowledge, is to strengthen healthy behaviors and enhance their self-confidence. Further, sexual health education must focus in the cultivation of the comprehension of gender and culture related health behaviour and build the possibility for constructive and healthy communication.
