مستخلص: Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) is a referral diagnostic, academic and research institute. It has played a leading role in imparting post-graduate training in various disciplines of pathology including histopathology, microbiology, chemical pathology, hematology, virology and immunology. Fellowship, MPhil and PhD students not only from the Armed Forces but civilians as well undertake well defined and structured training in respective specialties. Fellowship training is conducted under the prerequisites of College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), after clearing FCPS-I in Pathology. It comprises of fours years training under CPSP recognized Supervisor. During first year rotational training is conducted through various disciplines including: clinical pathology, virology, haematology, chemical pathology, histopathology and immunology. The postgraduate trainees (PGs) in microbiology undergo a structured program comprehensively covering theoretical and practical aspects. Somewhat neglected aspect of the curriculum in the past had been inadequacy in biosafety training and whatever the PGs were learning was mainly through personal observation or experience.
