Colin Quinn knows his history well enough to star in a one-man Broadway show on the subject, but not well enough to know that January is when a production is supposed to quietly close up shop, not extend for another month. Nonetheless, the producers of ''Colin Quinn Long Story Short,'' in which Mr. Quinn recaps the 2,000-year trajectory of civilization in about 75 minutes, announced on Thursday that the show will again extend its run at the Helen Hayes Theater through March 5. This will likely be the final extension for the show, which also represents Jerry Seinfeld's debut as a Broadway director, as ''Rock of Ages'' is slated to move to the Helen Hayes that month.
