مستخلص: This article discusses the lack of attention given to the study of comedy within the field of theatre and performance studies (TaPS). While there has been significant scholarly attention on comedy in other fields, such as media and communications studies, TaPS scholars have felt left behind. The article argues that TaPS should lead the charge in analyzing and foregrounding the embodied practices that constitute comedy, including the performer's gestures, expressions, and interactions with the audience. It calls for a renaissance in TaPS research on comedy, emphasizing the importance of moment-to-moment analysis, performer-audience interaction, contextualizing bodies within sociopolitical conditions, and valuing practice-based knowledge. The article also suggests further areas of exploration, such as the role of spatial factors in comedy, teaching comedy as a subject, archiving comedy, and the role of comedy in times of crisis.
