Dodgson's photograph albums not only allowed him to control how and by whom his photographs would be viewed, but also, since he was a collector of photographs and photographed other artwork, provide an important context for his images. Given that Dodgson carefully controlled the access of his photographs to a limited group of friends when he displayed his photographic albums or gave away photographs, how were these photographs able to help develop the Victorian concept of childhood? Waggoner links Carroll's costumed photographs to the Victorian theater, which Carroll enjoyed, and the partially dressed and undressed photographs to Victorian fairy paintings.
