The article presents information on viral haemorrhagic septicaemia virus in Italian trout culture. The virus used in this study was isolated from pooled viscera of rainbow trout, Salmo gairdneri Richardson, showing typical viral haemorrhagic septicaemia and was in its fifth passage on RTG-2 cells. Differences in the preparation of material for electron microscopy account for the varying electron density of the viral nucleocapsids recorded by different researchers. This study confirms that viral haemorrhagic septicaemia virus is a typically helically symmetrical rhabdovirus. |
