مستخلص: The eighteenth-century conte of Nocrion is an adaptation of an Old French fabliau that builds on its source to explore illicit speech. In particular, it refers to the socially unmentionable parts of the feminine body and female experience through a range of strategies: antiquarianism, euphemism and the use of other languages. One of the tale's presumed authors, the Comte de Caylus, remains faithful to his medieval sources while adapting the text to serve the concerns of his readers. Other adaptations of fabliaux attributable to Caylus, notably in the collection Les Manteaux, demonstrate an interest in the uses of speech in order to cloak as well as to unveil the secrets of the female body.
