The article explores the prevalence of the cutaneous infection with Dermocystidium salmonis in cardinal tetra, Paracheirodon axelrodi. Topics discussed include the diagnosis of the etiologic species, the use of scanning electron microscopy in the examination of the infection and the macroscopic examination of the cardinal tetra. Also presented are polymerase chain reaction (PCR) primers used to detect Dermocystidium salmonis. |
