مستخلص: | This qualitative phenomenological study explored the experiences of workplace belonging and esteem of 12 staff members with various minoritized identities working in higher education in the Midwestern United States. While much research focuses on student belonging, this study centered on the perspectives of non-faculty staff, addressing a notable gap in the existing literature. Through semi-structured interviews, participants' narratives led to findings that underscored the importance of authentic belonging, emphasizing the need for individuals to be heard and accepted as their true selves. Additionally, the study reiterated the difference between inclusion and genuine belonging. Despite facing challenges, participants highlighted the positive impact of their diverse representation on students' sense of belonging. Implications for practice include soliciting input from staff with minoritized identities, developing support networks, and implementing policies to mitigate power dynamics. Institutions are urged to move beyond tokenistic diversity initiatives, address bias-related incidents, and expand intercultural training opportunities for staff. Inclusive practices and resources, akin to those extended to students, should be extended to staff. Ultimately, this research sheds light on the lived experiences of staff with minoritized identities, informing inclusive workplace practices in higher education. By amplifying the voices of minoritized staff, this research informs efforts to create a culture where all members of the campus community may experience belonging.
