الوصف: This thesis aimed to study the developmental trajectories involved in the spatial integration of linguistic information during word reading using the flankers task. More specifically, we tested the impact of orthographic, phonological and morphological flankers on processing both of the central word target in adults and beginning readers. This thesis presents four studies. The first study was conducted on adults only comparing the contribution of both orthographic and phonological to the flanker effect, and showing that this effect was primarily driven by orthographic overlap. The second study tested children from grades 1-6 and revealed that, from the earliest stages of reading development, orthographic processing can extend beyond single words. The third study tested the impact of morphological information in primary school children (grade 3-5) and in adults, showing that morphological decomposition processes spanning multiple words takes several years to develop. The latest fourth work tested both primary school children (grades 1-5) and adult participants and showed that the rightward bias is driven by attentional asymmetries that develop during the process of learning to read, and not by innate hemispheric specialization for processing linguistic information. We discuss the theoretical contribution of this research, its implications for the understanding of the spatial integration of linguistic information in young readers, and how these results can be accounted by current models of skilled sentence reading such as OB1-reader (Snell et al., 2018; Meeter et al., 2020).
