الوصف: This article aims to carry out a critical review of the scientific literature that addresses the development of secondary school for youths and adults on an international scale in the last decades, in order to see if the trends presented are the same as those displayed in Argentina. Through the scanning and bibliographic analysis of 27 works it is shown that in the specialized studies it is clear that this type of school proposals can be found in different places around the world and that students generally share the same concrete traits in common, although its degree of massiveness or whether these tend to expand it is not evident, and there is some ambiguity in how this population is conceptually characterized. ; Este artículo tiene como objetivo realizar una revisión crítica de la literatura científica que aborda el desarrollo de la secundaria para jóvenes y adultos a escala internacional en las últimas décadas para ver si las tendencias presentadas son las mismas que se despliegan en Argentina. A través del barrido y análisis bibliográfico de 27 obras se muestra que en los estudios especializados queda claro que este tipo de propuestas escolares pueden encontrarse en distintos lugares del mundo y que los estudiantes comparten en líneas generales los mismos rasgos concretos en común, aunque no resulta evidente su grado de masividad o si estas tienden a expandirse, además de que existe cierta ambigüedad en cómo se caracteriza conceptualmente a esta población.
