ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of three mineral commercial formulations on the productive performance of lambs and reproductive behavior in hair sheep ewes. Forty-eight ewes were selected of Pelibuey Canelo and Katahdin breeds. Ewes were 2.5±0.5 years old, with a live weight of 45.0±5.0 kg and a body condition score of 2.5 to 4.0. We used a completely randomized design, with 12 repetitions and four treatments, which consisted in the application of the mineral supplement via parenteral (MSP), as follows: treatment 1 (T1)=control group (Vit ADE); T2=T1+(993 mg P+45 mg of Se); T3=T1+(993 mg of P+VitD3); and T4=T1+(670 mg Zn+987 mg Mg+795 mg of Ca). The productive variables evaluated were birth weight of lambs (BWL), the weaning weight of lambs (WWL), weight gain at weaning (WGW). While the reproductive behavior of the ewes was assessed using the prolificacy (PRO), percentage of gestation (PGE), percentage of lambing (PCL) and percentage of weaning (PWE). The means of BWL, WWL and WGW were 3.60, 12.43 and 0.21 kg, respectively. There were no significant differences (P > 0.05) among treatments. These results were similar in reproductive traits with an average of 1.3 of PRO and the PGE, PCA and PWE were 83.9, 83.9 and 96.2%, respectively. The results were not affected by treatments (P > 0.05). It is concluded that the parenteral mineral supplementation in hair sheep ewes did not infl uence productive or reproductive parameters. |
