Forty male Sprague–Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups (10 animals per group): sham, IRI control, resveratrol, and Res-NPs injection. Kidney injury and the effects of Resveratrol and Res-NPs were determined by histological examination, renal function, cell apoptosis profile, and gene expression. Changes in IGFBP2 were similar with the pattern of well-known renal biomarkers, namely, kidney injury molecule 1 and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin, in all groups. Compared with the IRI control and resveratrol groups, the Res-NPs groups displayed significantly reduced apoptotic rate, reactive oxygen species level, and malondialdehyde content, downregulated protein expression levels of Caspase3 and Bax with increased antioxidant glutathione peroxidase level, and upregulated expression of Bcl-2 protein. Thus, IGFBP2 may serve as a promising novel biomarker of AKI, and Res-NPs may prevent kidney injury from ischemia/reperfusion in a rat model.
