The existence of sex differences in Biomedicine has been thoroughly acknowledged in the literature, but their reasons very scarcely analyzed. Many times, the sex perspective is not taken into account when designing the experimental design and cannot be incorporated in a subsequent analysis. However, there exists a growing amount of datasets stored in public data sources which does include the necessary information to do it. In order to take advantage of these resources, MetaFun allows to analyze different kinds of omics data with a sex perspective, and to combine different datasets to gain major statistical power and biological soundness through a functional meta-analysis. The webtool has been developed with Angular, which allows MetaFun to grow easily in the future. All the meta-analysis scripts have been developed using R while the middleware has been written in Java. MetaFun is fully interactive, and all the results are presented in an easy and understandable graphical way thanks to the Plotly python library. The main objective of MetaFun is to allow every interested researcher in the community to use meta-analysis and sex perspective in their own investigations aiming at a better molecular comprehension of their results. |
