الوصف: Genetics, temperament, development, and environment all contribute to the formation of adult personality disorders (PD). The search for risk factors specific to individual PDs has been hampered by frequent comorbidity. Researchers have struggled to separate overlapping diagnostic criteria. Because PDs are common persistent conditions that cause great impairment and distress, prevention would lead to significant improvement in public health. If modifiable risk factors are identified early, intervention may be possible. This article will summarize current research regarding childhood antecedents of adult PDs. Describe the role of childhood experiences in the development of personality disorders. Identify individual personality disorders and common risk factors for them in childhood.
