مستخلص: Due to the global warming, a supportable and sustainable transportation system needs to be established, which should be relied on renewable energy resources. This paper presents design, calculations of each parameter and simulation of solar powered ferry boat propulsion system which consist of 2.6kW photovoltaic (PV) system, 19.2 kWh battery system, bidirectional converter, inverter & 2.2 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor as an alternative to diesel powered ferry boat. The ferry boat is 21 feet long and 8 feet beam, capable of carrying 7 passengers at the maximum speed of 5 knots. Empty boat weight is 700 kg and capable up to 1.5 ton of water displacement. The performance of the system is validated through numerical simulations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
