مصطلحات موضوعية: Anahtar Kelimeler, Alcoholic Liver Disease, Oksidative Stress, Antioxidant, Oleuropein Alcoholic Liver Disease (ALD) is a broad-spectrum disease increasing liver damage due to oxidative stress, manifested by alcohol metabolism, displaying various symptoms. Oleuropein (OL) is the most abundant phenolic compound in the olive plant with therapeutic and protective effects. The aim of the study is to investigate the oxidative damage treating effect of OL due to its antioxidant property in experimental chronic alcohol (CA) model. Wistar Albino rats were randomly divided into four groups with 7 animals (n, 7) as group I control (tap water 2 mL/day), group II OL (50 mg/kg/day OL), group III CA (5 g/kg/day alcohol) and group IV CA+OL. After for 4 weeks rats were sacrificed and liver deformities due to alcoholic liver damage were observed histopathologically. SOD enzyme activity as a biomarker for the antioxidant status, KYN, DT, AOPP, and PCO levels for protein oxidation, LHP and TBARS levels for oxidative membrane damage, FRAP and T-SH levels for nonenzymatic redox homeostasis status and AGEs levels for glycooxidation were measured in liver and brain tissues and plasma samples. TBARS, and AGE levels were found to be lower in the CA+OL group compared to CA group, both in plasma and liver tissue (p<0,05,p<0,05,p<0,01, p<0,01, p<0,001,p<0,05), while KYN and LHP levels were decreased in the liver tissues of the treatment group an increase was observed in SOD enzyme activity (p<0,05,p<0,05, p<0,05). PCO levels were decreased in the brain tissue and plasma in the treatment group compared to CA group (p<0,05,p<0,001). It was observed that alcohol increases oxidative damage, whereas OL impairs via reducing protein damage and lipid peroxidation, Biyokimya, Biochemistry
