O estudo tem como objetivo caracterizar e compreender os significados atribuídos à medida de acolhimento residencial e o que pensam os/as jovens sobre as casas de acolhimento enquanto lugares de (re)socialização para a sua integração na comunidade. Realizado no decurso do estágio, a presente pesquisa estudou as trajetórias biográficas de 12 jovens institucionalizados, com idades compreendidas entre os 14 e os 24 anos, residentes há cinco anos. Os resultados do estudo foram obtidos através de análise reflexiva das narrativas dos/as jovens. Os resultados obtidos indicam que a medida de acolhimento residencial representa um fator de proteção nas trajetórias biográficas dos/as jovens institucionalizados, tal como pudemos verificar nas narrativas dos/as jovens. A análise evidencia que as estratégias terapêuticas mobilizadas estão a gerar alterações atitudinais e comportamentais nos/as jovens, constituindo-se num fator de proteção de comportamentos disruptivos no futuro. O projeto de investigação e o projeto de intervenção - intitulado “(Re)Começar”, foi orientado para o desenvolvimento de competências pessoais, cognitivas, emocionais e comportamentais - evidenciaram trajetórias biográficas onde a dor, o sofrimento, a insegurança, o abandono, o vazio emocional e a perda do sentido de vida, a par da vivência de certas práticas marginais, são os atributos que melhor definem a desesperança e expressam o medo de não se ser importante para ninguém. A identidade forjada numa vida de errância levou-os a criar um imaginário, onde as figuras escolhidas lhes permitiram encontrar-se na terra de ninguém.
