This plant grows naturally in Peru and in other cases it is cultivated for its delicious seeds. Unfortunately, there are very few laboratory studies carried out on this plant and many of its benefits have not been studied or are in preliminary stages. So what is known comes from the ancestral knowledge of indigenous people who grow it (mainly from Peru and Bolivia).
